Expanding Windows Files 0 Percent
My friends Computer Failed to start, and Repair, Restore, and Recovery Disc will not work. This has many restore points but can't find any. Trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate from a Known to be good disc. It's the Original and I tested it on anothercomputer today, it works.
Windows coppies files, then hangs at Expanding Windows Files (0%). Tried 15 times, Even left it overnite.
I am thinking what ever is causing windows not to start, is also causing Windows not to want to install. Thiscomputer is an HP and the warranty has expired.
Trying to install Windows 7 beta from an iso and it reaches 'Expanding files' and hangs there forever at 0%. Have tried creating the vm as both Vista and Server 2008, both hang at the same point.
My Friend is poor with 4 kids and I am just trying to help her out. It's a 300-1330 Touchsmart and has had this same operating system on it for 14 months with no problems, Except IE 10. We had to remove thatbecause it crashed everytime she closed Internet Explorer. Message would pop up Internet explorer has stopped working and has to be closed. We went back to IE 9 and it worked perfect.

Please try to think away from DVD & DVD Drive Problem. I eliminated that in the first 2 hours of tryingto fix this. Remember I said Can't Repair or Restore. And there are over 100 restore points on that computer. 1 that I created months ago is labeled PERFECT. But Can't find Restore Points.
Recovery disc will not work. Windows DVD when inserted after you choosewhich partition says Coping files and you can see it is. But then it goes to Windows is Expanding Files (0%) forever. My self, I am thinking Motherboard or Processor. I removed her hard drive last night.
Put it in an External Enclouser that has USB and pluggedit in to my computer. Her hard drive is just fine. Re installed it in her computer 20 minutes ago. Tested hard drive with Spinrite, and WD had a couple of test I ran, It's a good hard drive. I know there are Restore points on there. But computer can't seethem, Like it can't start windows, it can't expand files.

This is an HP 300-1330. I googled it last night and foundthere is an overheating issue. Seams HP didn't provide enough vent holes for adaquit cooling.
Some are saying Processor over heats and fails. Read all my symptoms and please tell me if this sounds like a processor.
If so I found 1 for 99 cent last night onebay. I am thinking it is worth a try. Even with shipping it's under $5.00, and includes Heat sink and Fan. But I am just not sure it is the processor. First if at all possible verify the memtest DVD / USB will load and run on another PC, if it does then you know the media is good.Second, did you check the BIOS, either the DVD or USB must be set s the 1st boot device for memtest to load and run. If it's not do so and try again.If the above has been tried and memtest still does not run then chech the CPU coller / fan for dust bunnies which can cause overheating.As for Ebay, what about the seller's rating, 99 cent is way too cheap?J W Stuart: Never be afraid to ask. Set DVD as first boot device in bios. Memtest still will not run. This PC has a Squirrel cage fan in the power supply and copper duct work providing air to 4 differant heat sinks. I blew throung the duct that goes to the processorwith 45psi compressed air, it's clear. I am thinking processor. The dude on ebay has sold over 2300 items all starting at 99 cents, and has a 100 percent rating. I checked his history for the past 6 months, everything starts at 99 cents.
