Fallas En Evinrude Etec
Thanks for the info,I will call the after sales and let them know.I hope this is just a simple problem to fix. This is my fifth e-tec that I have owned. This is the only one that has given me problems.I have a 2013 50hp e-tec that has had no problems at all. This 25 hp when it is running has a sensor fault light on the EMM.I will take it to.
My motor is 2007 and has always run like a top.My primer bulb has always 'gone flat' shortly after start and a little use. Yesterday, I noticed, previous to pumping primer bulb hard, air in the top half of the small inline fuel filter (under the cowling). I can only think that this is the cause of the primer bulb 'going soft' after usage. My etec has been to the dealer many times with no one mentioning the air as an issue.Should I remove this air from the system? If I do, will the primer bulb remain hard during operation? Thanks!

Hi Legogmymako,I have owned MANY Evinrudes / Johnsons (the last 2 of which are Etecs) as well as Firestone / Scott Attwater / Champion, Oliver / Chris Craft & experiences with Martin outboards. I am an Evinrude outboard fanatic, to say the least.Since I am the first to answer, as well as a retired mechanical designer drafter, long time boater of 63 yrs. & an Evinrude guy for almost as long. My advice is this:I am quite confident your problem is the primer bulb itself.
One or more of the check valves in the bulb is broken / stuck & not allowing the full flow of fuel to your engine. The engine is trying to (and needs to) draw more fuel through the primer & is being restricted by one or both of the valves. If not the primer bulb, you may have a restriction in the fuel system somewhere before it. The least expensive solution is to replace it.
Especially, if the bulb is an AFTERMARKET bulb! They are notoriously known for failure!WARNING:Do not run the motor for any length of time without fixing the problem. You run the risk of operating the motor in a starving / lean condition which will eventually blow the powerhead. You may be strangling your motor to a slow but sure death.
Be careful and wise. Take no chances. Get this fixed NOW to avoid a huge costly problem!!! Filme de lobisomem avi. Wrote:Just to clear this up.the bulb does not go flat.it is just no longer hard.

It's been like this since day 1. Motor runs great.OK, now we have the correct story. When you squeeze the primer bulb until it is hard, you have pressurized the fuel system from the primer bulb up and into the engine. After the motor starts up, the fuel line goes from being pressurized to having a vacuum in it due to the lift pump 'sucking' up gasoline from the tank. In turn, the primer bulb is no longer hard but still holds it shape under the vacuum. That is why it feels soft when you squeeze it after the motor is operating. If there is a restriction or a kinked fuel line between the gas tank pickup tube and the primer bulb, then the bulb may flatten out due to the excessive vacuum that builds up. That is when the engine does not get enough fuel for proper combustion and damage may occur inside the motor.
